REV. TED BURCAW

Ted Burcaw - Mountain Laurel Moravian Pastor

“On behalf of the Mountain Laurel Moravian Fellowship, welcome!"

Since 2010, it has been my privilege to serve an amazing community of individuals and families who share a common bond of faith, love, and devotion to one another.

At Mountain Laurel Moravian, our faith is what grounds us, speaks to us, and drives us to serve.

As a congregation, we cherish our Moravian traditions, including communion, Advent, and Christmas candle service and lovefeast. However, we also appreciate exploring new traditions as they present themselves!

We welcome all and to come as you are to our services or any of our open events, such as our biweekly Bible study and monthly potluck suppers that are followed by presentations provided by members who share their crafts and passions with the group. Follow us on Facebook as events are posted.

We look forward to seeing you!

Pastor Ted

Being Moravian

Mountain Laurel Moravian Star and Moravian Seal
The Moravian faith, or Unitas Fratrum (United Brethren), dates back to the Bohemian Reformation of the 15th century. As Moravians, our informal motto is:

In essentials, unity;
In non-essentials, liberty;
In all things, love.

The Moravian Church emphasizes only those core values made clear in the Bible, especially those taught and lived by our Lord Jesus Christ, whom we regard to be the highest and best revelation of the nature of God.

Issues not made clear in the Bible, particularly those that have historically divided the Church, are left to the individual. For example, we do not teach a specific understanding of communion; all are welcome to meet at the Lord’s Table and receive His blessings.

We do not conform to a particular interpretation of scripture that unites us; instead, Jesus brings us together. Thus the Moravian Church does not focus so much on “right doctrine” but on “right living.”

Some of our basic beliefs are contained in a document known as The Ground of the Unity, and adhering to a list of beliefs, members are asked to agree to a standard of life known as The Moravian Covenant for Christian Living. For more information, visit the website of the Moravian Church.

Most of our congregation resides in Alleghany and Ashe counties, though we have dozens more from Pennsylvania to Florida who tune-in to our weekly live stream.

As the only Moravian congregational presence in Ashe, Alleghany, Watagua, and Wilkes counties, we feel called to make Him known through acts of service, such as regularly stocking the food pantry we created for students at Alleghany High School. Some of our members volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and the Southern Sun horse rescue farm.

We’re always on the lookout for ways to get involved in the community, and if you have an idea for a project or service activity we may be interested in, please let us know! Email us here.
